The Extraordinary Ordinary Little Big Things
Role: Writer ≈ Client: World Stage Press
My children’s book The Extraordinary Ordinary Little Big Things was published in 2020 by World Stage Press. This book was made in collaboration with illustrator Kate McMillan.
I was initially inspired to write this book after reading The Design Of Everyday Things by Don Norman during University. The idea that man-made objects and processes in our environment came to fruition because of a conscious process was exciting to me. I wanted to communicate the endless opportunity that provides, while also highlighting to children our agency to concretely alter our realities.
I began researching objects that people tend to take for granted. The dishwasher, the potato chip, windshield wipers, etc, and found that many of those items, which have profoundly changed our day to day lives, were invented by folks that until now have largely been omitted from history. These are their stories!
The tales of everyday things made by extraordinary people. Published by World Stage Press.
