Peridot: Niantic Games X Snap X Liquid City

Role: Writer ≈ Client: Liquid City

As a writer and conversation designer I developed the character of Peridot for Niantic’s demo at AWE. I researched and created an index of interesting local knowledge of Long Beach, from the history of mosaics to often overlooked facts about the convention center itself.

Niantic Spatial’s Project Jade, developed in collaboration with Liquid City and Snap, showcases the next frontier of AI: location-aware companions that see and understand the real world. Demonstrated at AWE in Long Beach, the project brought Peridot (Dot) to life through Snap Spectacles, letting users hold natural conversations with an AI that recognized and responded to its surroundings (“Tell me about that mosaic,” “Find me a nearby restaurant”). Powered by Niantic’s Visual Positioning System (VPS) for centimeter-level localization, a geospatial AI map, and a context-tuned large model, the system fuses computer vision with spatial intelligence to ground AI in place. Built as a blueprint for real-world, multi-user AR, Project Jade illustrates how freeing AI from the text box can transform navigation, education, and human-machine interaction at a global scale.
